Project Description

This project was delivered by Wiley under a design and construct model and fast-tracked for completion, with a 4.5-week design period and a 20-week construction period.

Key objectives of the project:

  • Inclusion of acoustic protection for the benefit of surrounding residential areas.
  • Enhancing the hall functionality, by designing the stage to be useable as a General Learning Area, including kinesiology. This required much higher levels of acoustic insulation from the sports hall component of the facility.
  • Continual stakeholder engagement between Building and Asset Services (BAS), DET, Wilsonton State High School and other key stakeholder groups, was critical for the success of the project. A strong level of engagement was adopted as the project transitioned from design into construction.

The hall is more than 2,000m² and includes:

  • A multipurpose court
  • A stage, amenities, kitchen and change rooms
  • Equipment and audio-visual storage
  • A kinesiology room and staff room

The school community will now be able to assemble and hold sporting and other events in their own hall, rather than having to use the Toowoomba State High School hall.

“It’s an exciting time for our school, as the new hall provides us with a critical piece of infrastructure that will enable so many cultural, sporting and administrative activities to take place in a modern, purpose-built facility.  The Advancing Queensland Schools initiative means our school will enjoy the benefits of a school hall much sooner than we had thought possible, which is great for students, staff and the Wilsonton State High School community.”

Marcus Jones, Wilsonton State High School Principal (at time of construction).
