Wiley recently participated in the Tour De Office 2019 for a week of fun and fundraising. Tour De Office is an approach to raising money for charities that aims to also raise awareness about the health risks office workers face by sitting for prolonged periods of time. It’s a way to stay fit and have fun in the workplace, and with the competitive spirit the Wiley team holds, this was a perfect event for us to be involved in. For a week in October, a stationary bike was set up in the office and riders would ride for 30-minute legs, sponsored by friends and colleagues to do so. All funds raised in the event went towards FareShare.
FareShare rescues food that would otherwise be wasted to cook and distribute nutritious meals to people in need. Their vision is a society where food is not wasted, and no one goes hungry. Their values align with Wiley’s values of a better future for all, and this is made it easy for FareShare to be the charity of choice for the Wiley Tour De Office. Mary and James from FareShare visited Wiley to ride along with us and brought with them some delicious bliss balls for our riders that they made from rescued food. As well as FareShare, Chobani Yoghurt sponsored the event and brought some yoghurt to the office for the riders.
“Tour De Office acknowledges our culture, staying healthy and giving back together while having fun competing,” said Wiley CEO, Robert Barron.
Wiley had 37 employees riding throughout the week, to raise money for FareShare. Over the week we rode 959.07km together and had a lot of fun doing so! The competitive spirit was growing throughout the week and we had all our half-hour riding slots filled. Collectively Wiley raised over $9,600 to go towards FareShare to help them end food insecurity in Australia.
